How To Take Advantage Of Online Law Education Resources

With demand for legal education dropping, a number of law schools have closed their doors. Yet, the online mba program are enabling students to learn about the law without dishing out thousands of dollars. Jordan Friedman, an editor at U.S. News, recently discussed three online resources law students can enjoy whether or not they are enrolled in law school.
Online Courses
There are a number of free or low cost online courses that students can enroll in. With platforms such as Coursera, Alison.com, and Udemy, Friedman says students can explore areas of the law that they may be interested in.
According to Friedman, students can expect to pay as little as $30 to $150 for certificates of completion for courses on Coursera. In addition, many courses offer the choice of having a specific start date or being self-paced.
LSAT Prep
LSAT prep courses are costly. According to CostHelper.com, an online LSAT prep course typically costs anywhere from $600-$1,150.
However, there are a number of free online test prep resources available. For instance, Velocity Test Prep offers multiple free LSAT prep resources on sections such as reading comprehension and logical reasoning.
If you don’t want to pay thousands of dollars for expensive prep courses, there are also cheaper online resources such as 7Sage, which offers a comprehensive online prep video lessons ranging from $179 to $749 packages.
Online Law Degrees
Online law degrees are a great opportunity for students who want an overview of the law without enrolling in a physical degree program. The drawback, according to U.S. News, is that the American Bar Association currently doesn’t accredit any fully online J.D. programs.
Yet, a number of schools offer online programs. For instance, Washington University in St. Louis, offers programs including a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) for non-lawyers, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in U.S. Law for international attorneys, and a dual LL.M. in U.S. Law and Transnational Legal Practice from both Washington University School of Law and Tecnológico de Monterrey’s School of Government and Public Transformation.
Tiffany Ahern is an online law student at Washington University at St. Louis pursuing a Master of Legal Studies. In an interview with U.S. News, Ahern says the online program offers flexible, yet valuable insight into an area of the law she’s interested in.
“This is a great way to learn about the law and get a master’s in something I’m already passionate about without having to actually be on campus,” Ahern tells U.S. News.
