Law School In Georgia Closing

Another day, another law school closes its doors.
Last month, Savannah Law School announced to its students and faculty that the school will be shutting down new enrollment after the spring semester, Savannah Now reports.
According to the ABA Journal, students were told that Savannah’s law school building was sold and that current students would be relocated to an unannounced location.

Savannah Law joins a number of law institutions that have closed their doors due to dropping enrollment including Indiana Tech Law School, Whittier Law School in California, and the Charlotte School of Law in North Carolina. In addition, according to the ABA Journal, Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana has suspended admissions while it seeks to affiliate with another law school.
Current students responded with sadness to the news of Savannah’s closure.
“For a small law school, we are so closely knit. Stellar faculty, stellar students,” Erica Drew, a third-year Savannah Law student, tells Savannah Now. “It’s just so heartbreaking.”
Next Steps for Savannah Law
Barry Currier is the managing director of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Currier tells the ABA Journal that while Savannah’s dean has contacted the section, “we have not, however, been formally notified of closure and, to the best of my knowledge, the school has not yet made a formal public announcement,” he says.
Once Savannah Law publically announces its closure, according to Currier, the school is required to submit a teach-out plan to the ABA that allows current students to complete their education.
If, indeed, the school intends to close,” Currier tells the ABA Journal, “we assume that those first steps will happen soon.”
