Idaho-Based Law School Announces Closure

Concordia University School of Law is planning to close its doors.

The Boise, Idaho-based law school announced that it will not reopen this fall. The decision to close follows efforts made by the university to secure a transfer agreement and approval of the ABA and accrediting bodies.

“We are absolutely heartbroken for our prospective and current students, our alumni, our faculty and staff, and our supporters and donors who have worked so hard over the last eight years to build a law school up from scratch. I can’t thank everyone enough for their work, energy, and commitment to this law school and the values we stand for,” Latonia Haney Keith, interim dean of the law school, says in a press release.

The announcement of the Boise campus closing follows the closure of Concordia University-Portland, which announced its permanent closure in February due to financial difficulties, according to Inside Higher Ed.

The decision to close the Portland institution “came after years of mounting financial challenges, and a challenging and changing educational landscape,” the university said in a statement to Inside Higher Ed.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The incoming class of 2019 at Concordia includes 89 students.

While there isn’t yet a clear direction as to where these students will complete their studies, Concordia has stated that a teach-out plan is in the works and will be submitted for ABA approval.
