Law School Dean Stepping Down

Vermont Law School’s dean will be stepping down.

Last Friday, the Board of Trustees of Vermont Law School and its President and Dean, Thomas McHenry, jointly announced that McHenry will not be seeking renewal for another term and will step down at the end of June 2021.

“The Board of Trustees is grateful for all that Tom has accomplished for the School and the intensity of his commitment to the success of VLS,” Glenn Berger, Chairman of the Board, says in the press release.

MCHENRY’S LEADERSHIP

McHenry, who was appointed in 2017, is a nationally-recognized environmental law attorney with 30 years of environmental and administrative law practice under his belt.

Under his leadership, McHenry has led a variety of measures that helped Vermont Law grow financially and improve its education quality.

Financially, he helped increase employee benefits and maintain the school’s nationally-recognized environmental program.

Additionally, McHenry established a number of clinics including an Immigration Clinic, an Environmental Justice Clinic, and a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation and Environmental Advocacy Clinic.

“I’m so pleased to be leaving VLS stronger financially and, with the newly endorsed strategic initiatives, poised for future growth,” McHenry says in the press release. “VLS is a great school, attracting and educating some of the most environmentally and socially committed law and policy students from around the country and the world.”

McHenry will continue to lead Vermont Law while the Board searches for his successor.

“Among his many accomplishments, Tom assembled an extraordinarily talented leadership team, and we have enormous confidence in their ability to continue to advance the mission of the School,” Berger says.
