Law School Receives Donation To Support LGBTQ Rights
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has received a $4 million gift that will support LGBTQ rights and diversity.
The gift, from IU alumnus Steve Tuchman and his husband, Reed Bobrick, supports the creation of an endowed scholarship and professorship to further the law school’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, according to an IUPUI press release. To honor their donation, the atrium in the law school building will be named after the couple as the Steve Tuchman and Reed Bobrick Atrium.
“Steve thoroughly enjoys being a mentor to IU McKinney law students, many of whom have been so inspiring to us,” Bobrick says in the press release. “We are especially pleased that the school has had an excellent track record when it comes to issues of diversity, and we are certain that will continue.”
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP AND PROFESSORSHIP
Part of the donation will be used to support an endowed scholarship for students pursuing a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree at the McKinney School with special consideration for “members of the LGBTQ community, immigrants, first-generation Americans, financially-challenged students and/or students with diverse cultural experiences,” according to IU officials.
Additionally, the donation will help support an endowed professorship for individuals working to advance LGBTQ rights and issues, reproductive rights and issues, and/or immigration law practice and policy.
“Many years ago, I recognized the potential and the value of this law school, located in our state capital, in a city that was beginning to make things happen. It all worked out very well — for Indianapolis, for IU McKinney School of Law and for me,” Tuchman says in the release. “Now, the time is right to give back and help plan for the future.”
