CREIGHTON LAW STUDENTS SAY…

Academics & Programs: Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska is a Jesuit-affiliated school with “a strong core curriculum” and an impressive bar-passage rate. The school offers five joint-degree programs and four certificate programs. One of the available certificates is in litigation, and students tell us that this area of the law is where Creighton really shines. “Creighton is the place to go if you want to be a trial lawyer,” proclaims a confident 3L. “I feel ultra-prepared for when I go into the real world.” Several practice-based courses “allow you to gain confidence and comfort working in a courtroom.” Creighton is also home to some of the best trial competition teams in the nation. But it’s not all roses here. Some students would like to see “more course offerings” when it comes to electives.
Across the board students say that the top brass and the staff “genuinely care.” “It really is like an extended family.” Classes are generally “entertaining.” “Horrible professors” do exist here but most professors are “stellar.” They are “extremely knowledgeable” and “tolerate other points of view.” “The faculty is committed to making the students better lawyers and they consistently push each student to really reach their potential.” “I’ll be the first to admit the Socratic Method is scary, especially the first time your name is called,” confesses a 3L, “but the teachers don’t punish or ridicule you for wrong answers.” Probably the greatest academic perk here is Creighton’s “open-door policy.” Outside of class, “Professors are all very approachable” and “almost constantly accessible.” They spend “an incredible amount” of time at school. “You can walk into their offices any time you have a question.” “Teachers know us by name and take pride in that fact,” beams a 1L. “The professors at Creighton will talk to you about problems you are having in their class, problems you are having in another class, problems you are having in general with law school, or personal problems you might be having,” adds a 2L. “They are also willing to talk to you about the good things going on in your life.”
Campus Life/Facilities: Some students call the Career Development Office “a joke.” “It has not been helpful to me in my job search,” grumbles a 3L, “and I have never heard anyone say it was particularly helpful to them either.” Other students have high praise for Creighton’s career development services. “If you want to practice law in Omaha, Nebraska,” they tell us, “this is the best way to get into the network.” “The ties to the Omaha community are impossible to beat if someone has aspirations in this market.” Happy students also point out that Creighton provides “ample opportunities to meet and clerk with lawyers and judges in a variety of legal fields.”
