Located near the heart of the capital, Georgetown University Law Center students enjoy easy access to legislative and regulatory bodies such as Congress, the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior, and the Environmental Protection Agency (along with advocacy groups and law firms devoted to environmental causes). Georgetown Law also publishes the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review, a quarterly academic journal considered to be the best in its field. The Duke University School of Law offers an interdisciplinary clinic with the Nicholas School of the Environment, where students provide legal services to non-profits. In this Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, students gain practical experience by assisting real clients in areas like fact-finding, strategy, and negotiation. Duke Law also sponsors the nonpartisan Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions. A collaborative effort between the law, business, medical, policy, and engineering schools, the institute delivers data, research, and policy analysis to public and private clients. Duke Law also offers 18 environmental courses, along with a law society.

Closing out the top 10, the New York University School of Law leverages its location to provide students with invaluable policy-making and practical experience. For example, NYU’s International Environmental Law Clinic allows students to research and draft regulations, policy, and analysis on environmental legal issues for clients such as the United Nations. NYU students have also enjoyed internships with organizations such as the Sierra Club and the United States Department of Justice. Students can participate in the Institute for Policy Integrity, a nonpartisan think tank that works with private organizations and local, state, and federal governments to build coalitions and deliver reliable cost-benefit analyses. NYU also holds an Environmental Law Society and publishes an Environmental Law Journal. Recently, it introduced an Environmental Law LL.M.
