What To Bring To A Law School Exam

Laptop? Check. Pens? Check. Water? Check. Nuts, Chocolate, Sandwiches, and Fruit? Huh…
It’s that time of year. And our friends at Law School Tool Box came up with a list of must-have supplies for your law school exam. Face it, exams can run up to four hours. Chances are, you’ll get hungry or distracted. And something is always bound to go wrong.
So Alison Monahan, Founder of Law School Tool Box, and Lee Burgess, Founder of Amicus Tutoring, came up with checklists for making it through exams. While Alison’s list is handy if you’re a survivalist, Lee’s list does miss a key components or two. So we decided to combine them.
Whether you’re already fretting over spring exams – or heading into the home stretch now – here are some items you’ll want nearby as you face the most important (academic) tests of your life:

  • The textbook and any supplemental materials
  • Printed copies of all of my class notes, in a binder
  • Printed and tabbed copies of my own outline(s) and other study materials and at least one other student outline, in a binder
  • Flags or Post-it notes
  • Foods
  • Liquids (Including energy drinks)
  • Earplugs
  • Pens
  • Scratch paper
  • Advil
  • Kleenex
  • Eye drops
  • Extra contacts
  • Backup glasses
  • My laptop
  • A power cord
  • An external mouse
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Jacket (our classrooms could get pretty cold)
  • iPod and headphones

One piece of advice from both authors: Get to the classroom, set up your space, and get comfortable. You want to come out of the shoot hard, build on your momentum, and never look back.
