Texas Law School Fires President

Amidst an admissions scandal, Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law has fired its president.

The University’s board of regents dismissed president Austin Lane last week after he failed to disclose information that one unqualified law student had paid to secure admission to the law school, Law.com reports.

“A consequence of your actions, and in particular the dishonesty, misrepresentation, material omission, and intentional concealment aspects of your conduct, is injury to the trust placed in you by the board to manage and lead the University on a day-to-day basis,” the termination letter reads.

The board of regents has also alleged that the law school gave false data on student LSAT scores to the ABA.

Lane, who has been on paid leave, has stated that the allegations are false and expressed that he will fight back.

The admissions scandal is the latest slate of troubles for the historically black college and university. Back in 2017, the ABA found the law school to be out of compliance with its nondiscrimination standard. Additionally, the association also found the university to be out of compliance with admissions standards that ensure law schools only admit students capable of graduating and passing the bar exam.
