Best JD Prep? A Liberal Arts Degree

Liberal Arts 2
As expected, law school is the biggest draw to political science majors (followed closely by English, history, economics and philosophy in the top 20… and criminal justice, business management and administration, arts and humanities, and communications outside the top 20).
According to the National Jurist’s examination of Muller’s data, “philosophy majors scored sixth best in terms of LSAT and GPA scores (but) were also admitted to law school at a higher percent than any other major — 75 percent.” Their analysis further revealed that majors with the highest “matriculation rates include history, government/service, international studies and environmental sciences. Most of the majors with lower matriculation rates had lower LSAT and GPA scores, such as criminal justice. It reported the lowest GPA and LSAT scores, and only 52.6 percent of applicants were admitted.”
Muller also noticed certain trends in his research. “More rigorous majors like economics, philosophy and math do better,” he tells National Jurist. “Science majors tended to have lower GPAs than other majors. Economics and philosophy majors had higher LSAT scores and GPAs overall. Business and criminal justice majors had lower LSAT scores and GPAs overall.”
And looking for some humor? Law and pre-law majors managed LSATs of 152.3 and 151.3 respectively (and average GPAs of 3.33 and 3.30). What’s more, their acceptance rates were 66% (Law) and 61% (Pre-law)lower than the acceptance rates of biology and Spanish majors.
Here are the acceptance rates for the top 20 majors (with a required a minimum of 150 law school enrollees):
